Yelping in Wonderland Event Recap

Hubs and I went to a cool event called "Yelping in Wonderland"... Do you yelp? It is an awesome app and the events they put on are amazing. My current goal is to become Yelp Elite status by checking in everywhere this summer! Check out the app if you don't already yelp...or visit them online.  We reference yelp every time we need a suggestion for which businesses to frequent.  It's ran by the users so there's no worry of sponsored posts or media garbage.

I'm a Yelp Gangsta.
Anyhow, on with the recap!

When we got there, we stood in line with our two cans donation per person donation to the FBNC and we received these funny name tags – they all said something different like "My name is cooler than yours" or "My name doubles as a verb"...ha.  Wonder what it would mean to "Cassie"...probably "Be Awesome"...That's my guess. ;)

We went inside the end they checked us off the list and then the fun began!

We were greeted by professional face painters who were busily painting everyone into either a butterfly or cat.  It was free but I did not partake.

I saw a much older man painted as a tiger.  I love seeing people who want to have fun!
We bypassed the photo booth that already had a substantial line and went straight for the goody table – A five dollar donation to the Food Bank of NC got us two pairs of sunglasses and lots of other small things, like buttons, playing cards, notepads, and gloves.  They loaded us up with goodies in a reusable shopping bag!
Ladies and gentlemen - the man I married.  *swoon*
We were hungry so we hurried in search of the busy food casino....but we were diverted from our path by the DESSERT table.  I worked out TWICE earlier in the day to make sure I could enjoy myself...and boy, did I!  We sampled two or three or seven bite sized cupcakes from Jenny's cupcakes....we then had some noms from the Sugar Buzz bakery... and finished it off with a huge chocolate and peanut butter fountain from The Chocolate Boutique...which Justin immediately drowned a poor marshmallow in.  I felt like Katniss and Peeta when they first got on the train to the Capital.

And now on to the food! Here is the food casino.  There were 7 or so food tables with everything from a pop rocks topped watermelon sandwich to a chocolate station from the Melting Pot with chocolate covered strawberries.  They had the filet from Sullivan's, goat cheese crostinis and little sandwiches from The Little Hen, and some gumbo we didn't even make it over to.  As if we had room!

Noticed everyone wearing hats? Yeah, I missed that part on the invitation. Hats!

We decided to stand in two different lines – I got food from Mantra and Justin got food from Sullivan's Steakhouse.  Yummo!  Here's our stash!
Make a "C" shape with you thumb and pointer finger - That's how big the shrimp were!  Not even kidding.  I only ate 2!

And onward to the Beer tables - Justin had 2 types of New Belgium Beers (he's holding mine because I am not a big beer drinker) and I had some Cripin Cider!

Each station had stickers, coupons, information, or snacks to try.  I snagged a few New Belgium bumper stickers!

My personal favorite was the Mad Housewife wine.  Sure, I was drawn there by the cute 50's broad in a light blue dress....and well, because it was WINE, but I had my fair share and did not get a picture of anything but the bottom of my cup (if that tells you anything)...which, after 2 or 3 refills, looked surprisingly beautiful.

Is this surprising to anyone?  Nope.
Visit their website to find out where it is sold and try some for yourself.  I know my back to school event will have a little of this.

On our way out, we made our way to the photo booth and waited in line.  While we waited, we enjoyed the view of Cirque de Vol aerial performers!

It was finally our turn so I grabbed the most normal prop for me.....a tiny hat and a MOUSTACHE and we took some completely sane and normal (i.e. hilarious and completely distasteful) photo booth pics....and here they are!
I'm sure I had good intentions with this pose.
Miss Moustache has found her match.
Oh, God I love him.
ADD ME ON YELP!  I wanna be your FRAN!
